On any given occasion, these words ring from the mouth of God’s servant to the ears of God’s creation. Pastor Modlin wants the world to know that his steps are ordered to glorify God. He takes no credit for the evidence of God’s goodness, grace, mercy, and blessings.
Pastor James E. Modlin is a native of Hertford, North Carolina. He is the son of James and Evelyn Modlin and a 1977 graduate of Elizabeth City State University. Upon moving to Baltimore, Pastor Modlin joined the New Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. John L. Leary. There, he served as a Trustee, Church Treasurer, and Deacon. In April 1987, he preached his initial sermon and was licensed to preach. In November 1991, Pastor Modlin was ordained as a minister.
Pastor Modlin joined The Grace Memorial Baptist Church, in 1992, under the leadership of Rev. Irvin Pope. There, he served as the assistant to the Pastor, and later as the Assistant Pastor.
On February 5, 2001 Pastor James Modlin was voted in as the Spiritual Leader and Servant of First Baptist Church of Back River. On April 1, 2001 he was installed as the 11th known Pastor. Under Pastor Modlin’s leadership, many ministries have been reborn and/or initiated, including the Mass Choir, Outreach Ministry, New Members Ministry, and Stephen’s Ministry. Pastor Modlin also accepted the leadership of building a new sanctuary, and on November 19, 2006, he and the congregation proudly opened the doors of 1616-A Hopewell Avenue for their first worship service in the new sanctuary.
Pastor Modlin is a graduate of the Baltimore School of the Bible and has attended St. Mary’s Seminary.
He is a loving husband to Elaine; devoted father to Shanita and James, III; and proud grandfather to Lyriq.
